Hy-Vee, the big local grocery chain, had their annual fishing derby today. I took the 2 older grandsons, the youngest stayed with grandma. We got there at 8 and there was already a big crowd. The kids get free worms and some of the fish are tagged. A tagged fish gets a prize. They were having foot races for the kids by age and all kinds of other things going on. We went to fish. Between the 3 of us we caught 23 bullheads. That's a lot of fish cleaning. I already know they are going to be tasty tonight.

Research done by the Justice Department and the Pew Center both show that gun crime is falling and has been since the 90's. Has anyone heard anything in the media? I haven't. To hear the media tell it, we are killing each other at rates that are off the charts. Other than the rare mass killings, violent crime is down. Not just murders, but even crimes where a gun is used to scare and intimidate. Yet gun sales have been setting records for years. Maybe more guns does equal less crime.
